Special occasions often feature flowers. Weddings, funerals, career milestones, birthdays, all can be celebrated with a bouquet of fresh flowers. We love fresh flowers, but we know they won't last... right? Not necessarily! Fresh flowers can be preserved by drying them.
Many different types of flowers and even entire bouquets, if dried properly can be preserved and last well into the future.
Flowers can be dried by removing the leaves and hanging them upside down in a warm dark room until they feel like tissue paper. Depending on the variety of flower and the humidity, this can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
Some of the best flowers for drying are:
- Strawflower (Helichrysum / Xerochrysum)
- Statice
- Lavender
- Gomphrena (Globe Amaranth)
- Hydrangea
- Baby’s Breath (Gypsophila)
- Yarrow (Achillea)
- Roses
- Larkspur / Delphinium
- Amaranth (Amaranthus)
Many other types of flowers can also be preserved as well.

Once the flowers are dry, they will be quite delicate, but with a careful touch they can be arranged and keep the natural floral beauty and the memories of the occasion they celebrate, lasting well into the future. At Lakeside Floral we would love to be part of those important moments with fresh flowers and curated gifts delivered as soon as same day.
